USDA Announces $1.3 Million in TeleHealth and Distance Education Grants for Renown Health, Nevada System of Higher Education, Elko County Schools

The U.S. Department of Agriculture today announced more than $1.3 million to fund three telecommunications projects for improved technology systems to support distance education and telemedicine in Nevada. Forty-six education sites at elementary, middle and high schools, community colleges, Cooperative Extension Service Centers, and Nevada Youth Training Centers will access improved technology and more advanced educational curricula, and 21 additional health care sites will be able to provide acute and preventive health care services.

NSHE mourns the passing of Thalia Dondero

Thalia Dondero, a former regent and community leader, died Sunday at the age of 96.

Dondero served two terms as a regent for the Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE) from 1996 to 2008, including two successful terms as Board chair, followed by one term as vice chair. She also served as chair of the Board's Investment Committee and was founding chair of the ad hoc Health Care Education Committee, which later became the Health Sciences System Committee.

Nevada Board of Regents announce new strategic plan initiative

As an outcome of a two-day workshop held by the Nevada Board of Regents, the state's public higher education system will pursue a new strategic planning process encompassing its four community colleges, a state college, two research universities and research institute. The initial foundation of the plan will stem from the 2011 Strategic Directions for the Nevada System of Higher Education.
