Clean energy

Clean energy has been the theme of the week. On Monday, I attended the dedication of the TMCC Renewable Energy Lab at the college's Edison campus. It was built through a donation from NV Energy and will be a hands-on classroom teaching students about how renewable energy systems work.

On Tuesday, I attended the National Clean Energy Summit sponsored by Senator Reid and UNLV. Vice President Biden and Governor Sandoval were there and spoke about how the nation and Nevada needed to invest in clean energy research and development. President Smatresk also spoke and announced a $500,000 donation from NV Energy to fund master's students in solar energy research.

It is important for NSHE as we move forward to make sure our programs and research are aligned with the goals of elected officials and industries in the state. These gifts are also critical as industry needs to help NSHE with funding for new programs to come forward.
