The State of Nevada is concerned over the growing number of medically underserved people. Medically underserved are those individuals or areas in the state that are unable to receive adequate health care services. Program Requirements

A. You must repay 10% of the total support fee within 5-10 years after you graduate (Loan Repayment Program exempt). Monthly payments commence one year after graduation or termination of studies. (Repayment time frames depend upon the total amount owing upon graduation or termination of studies.)

B. You must work in Nevada and practice in a medically underserved region or with a medically underserved population for two years (nursing may be exempt from the “underserved” requirement).

C. Graduate-level nurses must teach within the Nevada System for Higher Education to fulfill their obligation.

D. You will be asked to obtain a guarantee/co-signor signature for the promissory notes. A spouse, parent, guardian, or other responsible party can be a guarantee/co-signor (Loan Repayment exempt).

E. The programs are competitive, based upon acceptance by the institutions and/or an interview with WICHE.

Other exchange programs

  • Western Undergraduate Exchange Program (WUE): Students  may choose from 14 participating states in which to attend school and pay 150% of the resident tuition.
  • Western Regional Graduate Program (WRGP): Masters and Ph.D. level students can attend one of approximately 40 institutions and 118 programs at resident tuition rates.
  • Professional Student Exchange Program (PSEP): A loan forgiveness program in which 25% of funding is loaned and must be repaid, and 75% is forgiven if the student returns to Nevada and practices in their profession for as many years as support was provided. Otherwise, the forgiven portion must be paid back in the same manner as required for repayment of loans.
