Marcia L. Turner serves as vice chancellor for health sciences where she is responsible for promoting the advancement of more than 100 health science related programs throughout the eight institutions of the Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE). She has been with the Health Sciences System (HSS) since its inception in 2006.
Turner manages the planning and development activities of the organization, including fostering the development of NSHE health science programs, facilitating the development of partnerships with external health care stakeholders and working to help secure additional resources to support these critical health professional education programs throughout Nevada. Turner has also overseen the design and development of a $115 million state-wide capital improvement project that would add critical educational, training and research facilities in northern and southern Nevada.
Prior to joining NSHE, Turner served as an administrator at the University Medical Center of Southern Nevada, and has worked extensively with local governmental agencies in Nevada and California, managing various public affairs and infrastructure development Initiatives.
Turner completed a National Health Fellowship Program with the National Association of Public Hospitals and Health Systems. She holds a bachelor's in communications and philosophy from the University of San Diego, a master's in communications from UNLV and a doctorate in environmental science, with an emphasis in environmental policy and management, also from UNLV.
