BOARD OF REGENTS
UNIVERSITY OF NEVADA SYSTEM
November 1, 1985
The Board of Regents met on the above date for a special meeting
in the Ham Concert Hall, University of Nevada, Las Vegas.

Chairman Klaich called the meeting to order at 1:05 P.M. in the
Green Room of Artemus Ham Concert Hall, University of Nevada,
Las Vegas.
1. Approved Distinguished Nevadan Awards
Approved the following Distinguished Nevadan Awards:
Mary Gojack Gorrell, Reno, Nevada
Mrs. Gorrell has had a productive career as a Legisla-
tor (State Assembly and Senate, 1972-78), community
activist and businesswoman. She is a graduate (B. A.
and M. A.) of the University of Nevada-Reno. While in
the Legislature, she was instrumental in the development
of legislation in such disparate and important areas as
compensation for victims of crime, ethics in government
and land use planning. Mrs. Gorrell has been involved
in numerous educational and cultural activities, has
demonstrated her commitment to the University through
service on a variety of committees, and is currently a
member of the College of Arts and Science Advisory
Board.
Mrs. Gallagher moved approval. Mrs. Kenney seconded.
Motion carried unanimously.
Dr. Charles Vanda, Las Vegas, Nevada
Dr. Vanda has served UNLV for over 10 years at little
or no salary, during which time he was the prime force
behind the establishment of the Masters Series, a series
of concerts by the world's finest musicians, which
brought to the Campus and City classical artists. He
also served as the Director of the Center for Perform-
ing Arts. His worldwide contacts have combined with
his tireless energy in the pursuit of cultural excel-
lence for UNLV.
Mr. Foley moved approval. Mrs. Kenney seconded.
Motion carried unanimously.
The meeting adjourned at 1:15 P.M.
