EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MEETING
September 24, 1948
The meeting of the Executive Committee of the Board of Regents
was called to order by Chairman Ross at 10 A.M. for the purpose
of opening fuel oil bids. Present: Regents Hilliard and Ross,
Vice President and Comptroller Gorman.
Fuel Oil Bids
Bids were opened by Chairman Ross and referred to the Comptroller
for tabulation and report to the Executive Committee.
Navy Research Project
The Chairman of the Board was authorized to sign Navy Contract
No. N8-Onr-675000 covering research work to be done by the Chem-
istry Department of the University of Nevada, the Navy's contri-
bution to this research project being $2000 per year.
The Comptroller was instructed to write the Navy Deprtment ad-
vising them that Professor G. W. Sears would retire from his
duties at the University on July 1, 1949 and to inquire if his
retirement would affect the contract.
Alice Chichester Case - Mr. Hilliard's opinion is that if she
has moved to Nevada and claims that she is a bona fide resident
of Nevada she is exempt now. Dr. Gorman was delegated to consult
with her further and report to the Board.
Dormitory Buildings from Reno Army Air Base
Dr. Gorman reported that at the present time it looks as if
Lovelock schools will get building No. 7410 which the University
had hoped to obtain.
Report was made that about 1/2 of the instruments used by the
University Band had been furnished by the U. S. Army and that
about 1/2 of those so furnished had been recalled, leaving the
University Band with many more students enrolled in Band than
can be supplied with Band instruments. It was the unanimous
opinion that, provided money could be found to purchase necessary
Band instruments, they should be ordered at once, if the Presi-
