September 5, 1901



The Board of Regents met at their Office on Thursday, September

5, 1901, at 10:30 o'clock A.M., a full Board being present, also

the President of the University.



Minutes of the meeting held on August 10, 1901 approved as read.



On motion of Regent Booher, seconded by Regent Deal, it was

ordered that the contract between the Board of Regents of the

State University and Chas. E. Clough for the building and com-

pleting of the Chemistry Laboratory building and the Hospital

building be accepted and that same be executed in triplicate as

follows and filed.



On motion of Regent Deal, seconded by Regent Booher, the appoint-

ment of H. H. Dexter as Assistant Librarian by President Stubbs

at a salary of Six Hundred dollars per annum from September 1,

1901 was approved.



Regent Deal moved, seconded by Regent Booher, that the salary

of Professor Henry Thurtell be fixed at Two Thousand dollars per

annum and Professor Geo. J. Young at Eighteen Hundred dollars

per annum, both to take effect from September 1, 1901.



President Stubbss recommended that the salaries of Miss Anna H.

Martin be fixed at Twelve Hundred per annum, Mr. Peter Frandsen

at Twelve Hundred dollars per annum, Mr. Samuel B. Doten One

Thousand dollars per annum, Mr. Lewis A. Darling One Thousand

dollars per annum, all to take effect from September 1, 1901,

which, upon motion, was approved.



It was moved, seconded and carried, that Professor N. E. Wilson

be appointed a delegate to attend the Annual Convention of Agri-

cultural Colleges and Experiment Stations to be held at Washing-

ton, D. C., in November, next.



The Secretary of the Board was instructed to write the Secretary

of State for a copy of a catalogue of books in the State Library.



Regent Deal offered the following resolution, which was duly

carried:



RESOLVED, that the President of the University be and he is

hereby directed to formulate plans and carry them out through

the Experiment Station to plant the University grounds with

shade and ornamental trees at the earliest proper time for

planting, and that the funds necessary to pay the expenses

therefore be appropriated and paid out of the funds contained

inside the provision of the Hatch Act.

Bids for furnishing wood were opened as follows:

Gentlemen:



In compliance with your advertisement for bids for furnishing

wood for the State University, I will furnish fifty cords,

4-feet slabs delivered and piled on the University grounds

for $3.25 per cord, of which 40 cords will be green and 10

cords dry.

I will deliver on Campus grounds good merchantable split wood

for $4.65 per cord and slab wood for $3.65 per cord.

On motion duly carried, Mr. J. F. Aitken was awarded the contract

to furnish 50 cords 4-foot slab wood to be delivered, piled and

measured on the University grounds as $3.25 per cord in such

places at the buildings as the President of the Board may direct

in the months of September, October and November of this year.



On motion duly carried, Mr. J. N. Evans, Jr. was awarded the

contract to furnish 200 cords good, split merchantile 4-foot wood

to be delivered, piled and measured on the University grounds in

such places and buildings as the President of the Board may di-

rect in the months of September, October and November of this

year at $4.65 per cord.



No further business appearing, the Board adjourned to meet at the

regular meeting date in October, unless sooner called by the

President of the Board.
