                 EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MEETING
                      August 17, 1942

Meeting called to order at 4:00 P.M. by Chairman Ross.  Present:
Ross, Brown, Wardin, Gorman and Hartman.

Mrs. Wardin moved that work be continued for completing the heat-
ing plant system in the Gymnasium, using body iron instead of
galvanized sheets so that the completion of the building will
not be delayed.  This cost will be approximately $5,000.

Mr. Gorman read a letter from Mr. Fife who enclosed a check for
$50 to be added to the Emily Ross Haseman Memorial Fund.  Judge
Brown moved that the check from William Fife be accepted and that
a letter be written him informing him that the William Fife
Haseman Memorial Fund had been established.

Mr. Gorman reported to the Board that he had arranged to keep
Mrs. Freda Metcalf Bixby until December 31, subject to the
approval of the Board.

Dr. Hartman presented Miss Dolores Saval's letter of resignation
as Acting Graduate Manager, and recommended the reinstatement of
Joe Mc Donnell as Graduate Manager.  Judge Brown moved that Miss
Dolores Saval's resignation be accepted and Joe Mc Donnell be
reappointed as Graduate Manager.

Dr. Hartman presented the case of Mr. Chester Scranton who had
been rejected by the Army and recommended that he be reinstated
in his position as of August 1, 1942.  Mrs. Wardin moved that Mr.
Scranton be reinstated in his position as Associate Professor of
Physical Education for Men.

Mrs. Wardin moved that since this is a war emergency, Mr. Glenn
Lawlor be employed as Assistant Coach and that the University
pay 1/2 his salary and the Athletic Board the other half.  Mr.
Lawlor's salary shall not exceed $3000 per year.  Mr. Lawlor
shall be considered part of the Physical Education Department
staff from 8:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M.

Dr. Hartman informed the Board that Mr. Duncan had been called
into the Armed Forces, and suggested that Dr. Griffin be made
Master of Lincoln Hall.  Mrs. Wardin moved that Dr. Griffin be
made Master of Lincoln Hall until the return of either Mr.
Duncan or Mr. Harwood.

Dr. Hartman read a letter from Dr. Doten, dated August 3, 1942,
wherein he recommended salary increases for various members of
his staff, increases to be effective July 1, 1942.  In support
of Dr. Hartman's letter to Mr. Doten, Mr. Gorman suggested that
in the future, recommendations for increases be made prior to
July 1 each year.  Action on these increases was postponed to be
taken up at the regular meeting of the Regents, September 26,
1942.

Mr. Gorman gave a brief report on the insurance situation of the
barrack's fire, stating that $2000 would be received on damage
to the building and $500 on damage to contents.  It was expected
final settlement would be had by August 25.
