The Regents met at 10 A.M. on August 11, 1913.  Present:  Regents
Reid, O'Brien, Codd, Pratt, President Stubbs, Vice President
Lewers, and Assistant Secretary Gorman.  Absent:  Regent Hender-
son and Secretary Taylor.

The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved.

Vice President Lewers and President Stubbs read their reports,
and the same were ordered filed.

Moved by Regent Codd, seconded by Regent Pratt, that the recom-
mendation of the President regarding Miss Hazel Bacon's Normal
School graduation be accepted and the papers filed.  Carried.

Moved by Regent Pratt, seconded by Regent Codd, that we employ
Miss Alexandrina La Tourette as Assistant Librarian at $100 per
month, beginning September 1st.  Carried.

Moved by Regent Codd, seconded by Regent O'Brien, that Julia R.
Kelsey, Instructor in Music, be employed at a salary of $100 per
month, beginning September 1, 1913.

Moved by Regent O'Brien, seconded by Regent Pratt, that Victor
H. Hoppe be offered the position of Instructor in Public Speak-
ing and Expression at a salary of $125 per month to begin Sep-
tember 1st, if not accepted, the matter to be referred to the
President and Vice President to open correspondence with the
next applicant.  Carried.

Moved by Regent O'Brien, seconded by Regent Codd, that A. E.
Hill be employed at a salary of $133.33 per month beginning
July 1, 1913, with the rank of Assistant Professor in English.
Carried.

Moved by Regent Codd, seconded by Regent O'Brien, that the
President be authorized to employ Professor Huntley at a salary
he would recommend to take charge temporarily from month to month
at opening and take up regular appointment later.  Carried.

Regent Codd took Chair temporarily.

Moved by Regent Reid, seconded by Regent O'Brien, that the Board
authorize and direct President, accompanied by Regents Codd and
Pratt, to take such means of ascertaining what material is avail-
able to fill vacancy in Mining Department as they may deem ad-
visable.  Carried.

Chairman Reid took Chair again.

The matter of Professor Young's resignation and the fixing of
his salary and date of resignation to be considered later.

Moved by Regent Codd, seconded by Regent O'Brien, that Miss Mack
and Miss Riegelhuth be paid $100 per month, beginning September
1, 1913, instead of $1000 per year.  Carried.

Moved by Regent Codd, seconded by Regent Pratt, that Professor
Scott's salary be raised from $1500 to $1600 a year beginning
July 1, 1913.

A letter from John Edwards Bray was read.  Mr. Bray appeared and
stated his plan for University extension work before the Board.
Mr. Bray's letter was ordered filed.

Moved by Regent Codd, seconded by Regent O'Brien, that the
Chairman of the Board, President and Vice President of the Uni-
versity, and Superintendent Bray outline a plan of University
extension work and make report.  Carried.

Moved by Regent Pratt, seconded by Regent O'Brien, that all
bathing in the pond be prohibited.  Carried.

Chairman and President report on change of fiscal year to June
30, 1913.

Letter from H. W. Huskey was read.  Moved by Regent Pratt, sec-
onded by Regent O'Brien, that Mr. Huskey's letter, regarding
von Janinski, be answered by Professor Lewers.  Carried.

Moved by Regent Codd, seconded by Regent O'Brien, that Charles
S. Knight be employed as Agronomist at a salary of $200 per
month beginning September 1, 1913.  The President to notify him
at once by wire.  Carried.

It was decided that Richard Brown should retain his title of
Superintendent of Buildings and that his duties should be pre-
scribed by the President, at a salary of $75 per month.

Moved by Regent Codd, seconded by Regent O'Brien, that Mr.
Jameson be Master of Lincoln Hall and Superintendent of the
Dining Hall.  Carried.

Moved by Regent Codd, seconded by Regent Pratt, that the Presi-
dent get a Head Janitor at a salary not to exceed $100 per
month.

The Finance Committee and the President were instructed to confer
regarding the salaries of Mrs. Kaye, Miss Armstrong, Mr. Paine
and Mr. Young.

Moved by Regent Codd, seconded by Regent O'Brien, that August
Holmes be employed as assistant in Station Chemistry at a salary
of $100 per month.  Carried.

It was ordered that the recommendation of the President in regard
to positions of Soil Expert, Director, etc., be put over.  (See
report.)  Adopted.

The matter of providing quarters for the Military Department was
referred to the President.

Moved by Regent O'Brien, seconded by Regent Pratt, that Miss
Pollock be employed as recommended by the President, at a salary
of $200 per month, beginning September 1st.

Moved by Regent Codd, seconded by Regent O'Brien, that Miss Kate
Lewers be granted her Sabbatical Leave to go to Paris to study
Art on half-pay for one year beginning August 1, 1913.

Moved by Regent Codd, seconded by Regent O'Brien, that the Board
approve the action of the Comptroller in transferring funds to
various banks so that amount in each bank be equalized.  Car-
ried.

Matter of appointment of Professors of University to Quarantine
Board, as per letter from Governor Tasker L. Oddie, postponed
until next meeting.

Amos W. Elliott was elected Physical Director and Coach for
young men at a salary of $600 for the first four months of the
academic year.  If it is decided to retain him, an additional
$900 is to be given him for the remainder of the school year.
