                        July 29, 1901

The Board of Regents met at their Office at 9:30 o'clock A.M.,

Monday, July 29, 1901, a full Board being present.

Regent Deal moved, seconded by Regent Booher, that the reading

of the minutes of the previous meeting be passed until a later

hour in the day.

The hour having arrived in which to receive bids for the Chemical

and Hospital buildings, it was moved, seconded and carried that

no more bids be received for said buildings, and that the open-

ing of the bids be postponed to 1:30 o'clock P.M., July 29, 1901,

to which hour the Board adjourned.

The following changes were ordered made in the Hospital and Chem-

ical building plans.

Changes in Chemistry Building

    1.  The specifications to be changed so as to require the

        outside of the building to be constructed exactly accord-

        ing to the plans and specifications on file; or requiring

        the building to be perfectly plain on the outside with

        the exception of the door and two windows above the orna-

        mental brick work on each side of the door to the roof.

    2.  The bids shall include steam heating with boiler capacity

        and radiation sufficient to heat the building according

        to the standard rules.

    3.  Bids shall include gas machine of approved capacity and


Changes in Hospital Building

    1.  Shorten the length of the building by 8 feet, cutting out

        the Nurse's room provided for in the original plans and

        reducing the length of the hall and porch 8 feet, leaving

        the wards, bathrooms and kitchen same size.

    2.  Build the outside of the building exactly as it is ac-

        cording to the plans and specifications; or leave out

        all ornamentation on the outside on the building except

        the front door and the windows on each side.

The adjourned meeting of the Board met at 1:30 P.M., July 29,

1901, a full Board being present.

On motion of Regent Deal, seconded by Regent Booher, the Secre-

tary was instructed to return all bids received to the bidders

unopened and that the advertisement for bids for the Chemical

and Hospital buildings be made in accordance with the form made

by the Regents as follows:

                         BIDS WANTED



    The Board of Regents of the State University will receive

    sealed bids for the construction and completion of two

    buildings upon the grounds of the State University, accord-

    ing to the plans and specifications on file in the Office

    of the Board of Regents, the buildings being described as


    1.  A Chemical and Physical Laboratory as authorized by the

        Act of the Legislature, Statutes of Nevada, 1901, page


    2.  A Hospital for students as authorized by the Act of the

        Legislature, Statutes of Nevada, 1901, page 80.

    The bids for the Laboratory shall include all plumbing,

    electric wiring and steam heating.  Contractors are request-

    ed to make offers for a building entirely of stone from the

    walls of the old State Prison near Reno, except the cross

    walls, which are in such case to be of brick; and also an

    alternate offer for one entirely of brick, except the founda-

    tion, which must be of suitable stone.  In either case, all

    stone material, where suitable, may be taken from the Prison

    walls by the successful bidder.

    The attention of bidders is particularly called to the

    changes made in the plans and specifications on file.  Con-

    tractors may use any and all material suitable for founda-

    tions of either or both of said buildings from the old

    Prison wall.

    The bids shall be filed with the Secretary of the Board at

    or before 10:00 A.M. of Saturday, August 10, 1901, at which

    time the bids shall be opened.  Each bid to be accompanied

    by a certified check for the sum of $500, payable to the

    order of the Board as a guarantee that the successful bidder

    will enter into a contract in accordance with the bid.

    The Board reserve the right to reject any and all bids.

On motion of Regent Booher, seconded by Regent Deal, W. S. Beard,

Edward Barker and W. L. Bechtel was appointed as a Board of

Auditors to examine the books' accounts and vouchers, and to

certify to the reports for the fiscal year ended June 30, 1901.

The minutes of the meeting held June 19, 1901 was approved as

The Board of Regents met at 8 o'clock P.M., July 29, 1901, a

full Board being present.

The Secretary being unwell and absent, W. E. F. Deal was elected

Secretary Pro Tem.

The bids made for erecting the Chemical Laboratory and Hospital

buildings being greater than the amount appropriated for the pur-

pose of contracting the buildings, it was ordered that the plans

and specifications be modified and notice to advertise for new

bids to be made as required by law.

It was ordered that C. E. Clough and Geo. E. Holesworth be allow-

ed $10 each for services in connection with said plans and speci-
