Board of Regents met at their Office at 9:30 A.M., Wednesday,

June 19, 1901. Present Regents Deal, Evans and Booher.



On motion of Regent Deal, seconded by Regent Booher, Miss H. K.

Clapp was granted a leave of absence for two years without sal-

ary, and on the same motion the thanks of the Board of Regents

to be extended to Miss Clapp for her long and useful services to

the University, and further, that the Regents express to Miss

Clapp their best wishes for continued good health and happiness

during the remaining days of her life.



RESOLVED, that the Secretary of the Board of Regents be in-

structed to spread this resolution upon the minutes and to

transmit a copy to Miss Clapp.



The Secretary of the Board was instructed to advertise for bids

for the erection of a Chemical Laboratory building, complete

according to plans and specifications in the Office of the Pres-

ident of the University in brick and stone, the stone to be

furnished for the erection of said building from the old Prison

walls near the Asylum to the successful bidder without cash.



On motion of Regent Deal, seconded by Regent Booher, the Presi-

dent of the Board of Regents was authorized to employ Judge A.

E. Cheney to draw up a contract for the erection of the Chemical

building and a clause be inserted in the contract requiring the

contractor to complete said building by December 1, 1901, the

building to be under roof by October 15, 1901 and a penalty of

$50 a day be inserted on said contractor for each and every day

after December 1, 1901.

The Board directed the Secretary to return the plans and speci-

fications to the architects in San Francisco with instructions

to change same so to make the cost of said buildings come within

the appropriations.
