                 EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MEETING
                       June 15, 1942

Meeting called to order at 10:35 by Chairman Ross at the home of
Regent Brown, 737 Humboldt St., Reno.  Present:  Ross, Brown,
Wardin, Gorman, Hartman.

Dr. Hartman read a letter from Senator Mc Carran concerning the
heating plant and priorities on same; also letter to Senator
Mc Carran from Mr. Blowers, Assistant to Mr. Maury Maverick.

Dr. Hartman presented thank-you letters from Francis Richards,
A. G. Wiederhold, Sarah L. Lewis, Precious Johnson, Margaret E.
Mack, Maude Wilson, Harry E. Wheeler, F. W. Traner, Alene De
Ruff, Charles R. Hicks, P. G. Auchampaugh, C. F. Melz, Alice B.
Marsh and a letter from S. B. Doten.

Dr. Hartman read a letter from Harry Frost and Dr. Inwood con-
cerning leave of absence for Joe T. Mc Donnell.  Mrs. Wardin
moved that Joe T. Mc Donnell be granted a leave of absence ef-
fective July 1, 1942 until his commission expires (6 months
after the end of the war).  His salary is to be payable up to
August 1, 1942, unless he goes into the service before July 1,
1942, in which case his salary is payable for 30 days after he
goes into service.

Dr. Hartman recommended that a tentative and provisional leave
of absence be granted to William C. Miller in the event that
he is accepted by the Air Corps.  Mr. Ross moved that the Presi-
dent be given the power to grant leave of absence to members of
the staff who may be called into the military service.

Dr. Hartman read various letters pertaining to Mr. R. A.
Brenninger, now on leave of absence to obtain his Ph. D., who
is requesting an extension of his leave of absence.  Since he
is not using this time to obtain his Ph. D. in accordance with
the terms under which the original leave was granted, Dr. Hartman
recommended that he be authorized to write Mr. Brenninger a
letter stating that the University will abide by the terms as
outlined in a letter written by Dr. Chappelle to Mr. Brenninger
on April 9, 1941.  The Regents agreed that this matter should
be left in Dr. Hartman's hands.

Dr. Hartman read Mrs. Rhodes' letter recommending that Mrs.
Louise Grubnau Carll be appointed Assistant Registrar at a sal-
ary of $120 per month to replace Mrs. Delannoy, who resigned
effective May 1942.  Mrs. Wardin moved approval of this recom-
mendation.

Dr. Hartman recommended that the appointment of Miss Mildred
Klaus as a Lecturer in business subjects be renewed for the aca-
demic year 1942-43.  Mrs. Wardin moved approval of this recom-
mendation.

Dr. Hartman recommended that Miss Jessie Pope be given an in-
crease in salary of $150 per year ($2850 per year), effective
September 1, 1942; and that Dr. C. W. Hodgson be given an in-
crease in salary of $100 per year ($2500 per year, including
extension).  Judge Brown moved approval of this recommendation.

Mr. Gorman reported on his meeting with the Board of Trustees
of the Otto Hartung Estate, Mr. Mashburn, Mr. Williams and Mr.
Lasher, in Carson City.  Mr. Gorman read a letter to be pre-
sented to the Grand Lodge of the I. O. O. F., when it meets in
Sparks this week and asked the Regents to authorize the Chairman
to sign this letter for the Regents.  The Regents approved this
letter and authorized the Chairman to sign it.

Mr. Gorman brought up the matter of the roof on the old Dairy
building (now used by the Department of Veterinary Science)
which needs replacing.  Mrs. Wardin moved that the President and
Comptroller be given authority to secure bids if necessary and
go ahead with this matter.
