BOARD OF REGENTS
UNIVERSITY OF NEVADA SYSTEM
April 24, 1984
The Board of Regents met on the above date in the Conference
Room, Desert Research Institute, Reno, 399 Carlson Education
building, University of Nevada, Las Vegas for a special tele-
conference meeting.

Chairman Mc Bride called the meeting to order at 11:05 A.M.,
stating that the purpose of the meeting was to approve the rec-
ommendation for the appointment of the Desert Research Institute
President. Regents Mc Bride, Fong, Karamanos and Kenney were in
Las Vegas, Regents Sheerin and Gallagher were in Carson City,
and Regents Klaich and Del Papa were in Reno.
Mr. Klaich, Chair of the DRI Presidential Search Committee, stat-
ed that the Committee underwent an extensive search process.
There was outstanding support from both the north and south rep-
resentatives of the Institutional Advisory Committee and also
from the business community representatives who were very active.
He extended special thanks to Mr. Frank Bender, who was also
present for the meeting.
Mr. Klaich stated that there was a unanimous recommendation of
the Board of Regents Desert Research Institute Presidential
Search Committee that Dr. George Hidy be appointed President of
the Desert Research Institute effective August 1, 1984, at the
salary of $58,500 plus any additional salary increases which
may be authorized for 1984-85, with all the usual perquisites
and allowances. Also, Dr. Hidy is recommended for appointment
as Professor of Engineering with tenure at the University of
Nevada, Las Vegas.
Dr. Hidy will spend a substantial amount of time in his office
at the Desert Research Institute during May, June and July and
will be compensated on a pro rata basis.
Mr. Klaich moved for the approval of the recommendation of Dr.
George Hidy as President of DRI with the salary of $58,500 plus
any additional salary increases, with all the usual perquisites
and allowances and of the recommendation of Dr. Hidy for appoint-
ment as Professor of Engineering with tenure at UNLV. Mrs. Fong
seconded. Motion carried by roll call vote, all voting in the
affirmative.
Mr. Klaich thanked the Regents who served on the DRI Presidential
Search Committee for their time and effort.
Dr. George Hidy thanked the Regents for his appointment and stat-
ed that he was pleased to be a part of the University of Nevada
System. He appreciated the confidence and support from the Com-
mittee.
The meeting adjourned at 11:15 A.M.
