A special meeting of the Board of Regents was held on Saturday,
April 17, 1897 at 2 o'clock P.M. Present: J. N. Evans and
H. S. Starrett. Absent: W. E. F. Deal.
The Secretary was instructed to read the advertisements for
bids of the Mechanical building as appeared in the Nevada State
Journal and the Evening Gazette of Reno.
The hour having arrived to open the bids for the construction
and completion of the Mechanical building, Regent Evans moved,
seconded by Regent Starrett, that the Board proceed to open the
bids as follows: (2:15 P.M.)
George A. Booth 5740.00
Charles E. Clough 5752.00
George E. Holesworth 6245.00
R. Ryland and F. M. Schadler 6633.00
Burke Bros. 6345.00
Regent Starrett moved that the bid of George A. Booth for $5740,
being the lowest and the best bid, that it be accepted, which
was carried. The building to be completed on or before August
15, 1897. The Contractor to furnish a Bond for the sum of Four
Thousand Dollars with two approved Sureties qualifying in the
sum of Two Thousand Dollars each, conditioned for the performance
of the contract, payments to be made in the following manner:
Fifteen Hundred Dollars ($1500) when the building is completed,
according to the plans and specifications to and including the
laying of the first floor joists; Fifteen Hundred Dollars when
the building is completed, according to the plans and specifica-
tions to and including the second floor joists and the laying of
the under floor thereon; One Thousand Dollars when the building
is completed, according to the plans and specifications to the
roof and the roof put on and in place; the balance of Seventeen
Hundred and Forty Dollars when the building is finished and
completed, according to the said plans and specifications and
the terms of the contract. The acceptance of said building to
be made when the Contractor shall furnish good and sufficient
vouchers showing that all claims for labor performed and mate-
rials furnished in the construction of said building have been
fully paid and discharged.
On motion of Regent Starrett, the President of the University is
authorized to take the plans of the Mechanical building to San
Francisco and obtain an estimate of the cost of the heating plant
of said building.
No further business appearing, the Board adjourned.
