EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MEETING
February 27, 1953
The Executive Committee of the Board of Regents met in the Pres-
ident's office on February 27, 1953. Present: Regents Hardy,
Lombardi, Ross; Comptroller Hayden and President Stout.
The meeting was called to order by Chairman Ross at 1:20 P.M.
President Stout reported on the meeting with the Joint Assembly
Ways and Means and the Senate Finance Committee concerning the
University budget. The University had been asked if its budget
could be cut by $160,000. The Deans were consulted and the
Comptroller reviewed the budget carefully. It was felt that
while some cuts might be made, it would involve cutting programs
and assuming risks in raising estimates of income.
The members of the Executive Committee unanimously agreed that
the President report back to the legislative committees that
the University budget has been studied carefully, that the Re-
gents appreciate their attitude towards it, that it was a con-
servative budget as submitted; but that the University is will-
ing to take a calculated risk in reducing its budget request by
$60,000. The Legislature is to be asked to try to find the re-
