The regular meeting of the Board of Regents was held in the Of-
fice of President Clark at 9 o'clock Monday, January 31, 1927.
Present:  Chairman Pratt, Mrs. Williams and Judge Brown of the
Board, President Clark and Comptroller Gorman.  Absent:  Judge
Talbot and Mr. Williams.

The minutes of December 31, 1926 and January 3, 15 and 25 were,
on motion of Mr. Pratt, approved by the following vote:

List No. 2, State Claims Nos. 11 to 21, for the net sum of
$22,262.33 and List No. 2, Regents Checks, Nos. 710 to 721,
for the net sum of $65,209.80, were, on motion of Judge Brown,
approved.  Vote:

    Mr. Pratt            Aye

The salaries of Walter Palmer and J. Claude Jones of the Mackay
School of Mines were increased from $4200 to $4500 on the Mackay
funds as of January 1, 1927.  Mrs. Williams made the motion.

President Clark recommended that Professor R. C. Thompson be
granted a leave of absence for the Fall semester of the Univer-
sity year 1927-28 on full salary, the understanding being that
his work should not be given during the Fall semester of the
year.  Judge Brown moved the adoption of the President's recom-
mendation.  Vote:

President Clark recommended that Professor E. G. Sutherland be
given a leave of absence, without pay, for the University year
1927-28.  Judge Brown moved the adoption of the President's
recommendation.  Vote:

    Mr. Pratt            Aye

President Clark recommended that Dr. J. E. Church be granted
leave of absence for the University year 1927-28 at a salary
of $2600, his classes in Latin 1-2, 3-4 only to be given during
his absence, and these to be duly arranged for certainly at not
more than the remainder of what would have been the full salary
of Dr. Church.  It is understood that Dr. Church in accepting
this salary payment obligates himself to return to the service
of this University for at least 2 years at the end of his leave.
Mrs. Williams moved the adoption of the President's recommenda-
tion.  Vote:

President Clark recommended that Charles R. Hicks be granted a
leave of absence for the University year 1927-28 on 1/3 salary,
or $800 for the year, beginning August 1, 1927, with under-
standing that in so doing he obligates himself to return to
this University for at least 2 years at the expiration of his
leave of absence.  Mr. Hicks expects to earn his Ph. D. at
Clark University during his leave.  Judge Brown moved the adop-
tion of the President's recommendation.  Vote:

President Clark presented the report of Professor Wilson on
the O'Sullivan Ranch.  The price of $100,000 was prohibitive.

On the recommendation of Director Records of the Veterinary
Control Service, President Clark recommended that George W.
Schweiss be made Entomologist of his Division, as from January
1, 1927, at a salary of $175 per month.  After discussion bring-
ing out new facts, President Clark withdrew his nomination.

Judge Brown moved that President Clark and Comptroller Gorman
be authorized to go ahead with the building of a pump house at
the University Farm to install therein pump, tank, showers and
laundry room at an expense of not to exceed $1800, any balance
remaining from the $5000 insurance money from the barn to be
applied to this building first, and the remaining cost to be
carried over until the December, 1927 taxes for Permanent Con-
struction are available.  Vote:
