Board of Regents name 2008-2009 Chair
and Vice Chair
Reno, Nevada // June 12,
2008 -- The Nevada Board of Regents today unanimously
re-elected Michael Wixom to serve as chair and
Howard
Rosenberg as vice chair of the 13-member higher
education governing body.
Regents Wixom and Rosenberg will begin their
second one-year terms starting July 1.
Michael
Wixom
Regent Michael Wixom was appointed by Gov. Kenny
Guinn to serve on the Board of Regents in 2005, In
2006, he was elected to the office and is the
representative for Clark County, District 6.
He was born and raised in Blackfoot, Idaho. After
graduating from Blackfoot High School, he attended
Idaho State University, where he majored in political
science and economics. He graduated from Idaho
State University with a bachelor of science degree in
1980, earning High Honors. He later attended the
University of Utah, College of Law, graduating in 1986
as a William L. Leary Scholar, and was a member of
the Utah Law Review.
Regent Wixom has practiced law in Las Vegas,
Nevada since 1986, and is a shareholder in the law
firm of Smith Larsen & Wixom. He and his
wife, Heidi, have six daughters and two grandsons.
Howard Rosenberg
Regent Howard Rosenberg was first elected to the
Board of Regents in 1996 and is serving his second
term.
Currently Regent Rosenberg is a professor of art, art
education, design and film studies as well as the
director of advisement in the art department for the
University of Nevada, Reno.
He earned a B.A. in education/fine arts from the
Massachusetts College of Art; an Ed.M./M.A., fine arts
education/design from Harvard University and is
a graduate of the Film Studies Program/American
Film Institute and the Film Studies Program/Screen
Director's Guild from the University of California, Los
Angeles.
