Committees Named to Find Replacement for UNLV President
LAS VEGAS Bret Whipple, chair of the Nevada Board of Regents, announced
today the formation of two committees to begin the search for a new president
at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
The Regents' ad hoc UNLV Presidential Search Committee and the Institutional
Advisory Committee will work in tandem to organize a framework for the search
as well as develop a leadership profile for the new president. The first
meeting of the committees is expected to be held later this month.
Members of the regents committee include: Steve Sisolak (committee
chair), Dorothy S. Gallagher, Linda C. Howard, James Dean Leavitt, Jack Lund
Schofield and Mark Alden (first alternate).
Members of the Institutional Advisory Committee have yet to be selected.
Both committees will work together throughout the process with a recommendation
from the Institutional Advisory Committee to the regents' committee. The
regents' committee then votes on a recommendation to present to the full Board
for final approval.
Dr. Carol Harter, who has led the university for the past 11 years, announced
today that she will be leaving the presidency on June 30 to focus her efforts
on fundraising with the UNLV Foundation and serve as executive director of the
Black Mountain Institute.
The Nevada System of Higher Education, comprised of two doctoral-granting
universities, a state college, four comprehensive community colleges and one
environmental research institute, serves the educational and job training needs
of the nations fastest growing state. As Nevadas only system of
higher education, the NSHE provides educational opportunities to more than
100,000 students and is governed by the Nevada Board of Regents.
