2nd annual College Goal Sunday to be held Jan. 29
Statewide event to assist students with the
Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
The Nevada System of Higher Education will hold a special statewide event on
Jan. 29 from 2-4 p.m. to help college-bound high school students in the
completion and filing of the FAFSA, Free Application for Federal Student Aid,
which is the basis for determining eligibility for all need-based financial
aid.
The majority of Nevadas college students qualify for some kind of
financial aid, which includes loans, work study, grants and scholarship. The
first step is completing the required forms correctly and on time, said
Dr. Jane Nichols, NSHE vice chancellor for academic and student affairs and

Our goal is to eliminate any problems with comprehending, completing and
submitting the Federal FAFSA form, said Nichols. Our program will
walk students and families through the process step- by-step. Hopefully, this
will ensure their ability to explore all financial aid options available.
The FAFSA form is required by most educational institutions to determine
eligibility for a wide range of grants, loans and scholarships. Students from
all socioeconomic backgrounds are encouraged to complete the form.
Sponsored nationally by the Lumina Foundation, the College Goal Sunday program
has been successful in other states including Indiana, Hawaii, Arizona, and
California.
To participate, students are encouraged to pre- register by logging on to the
Web site
www.cgs.nevada.edu
. The site contains basic information about the event and provides specific
information regarding program locations. Registration is not required to attend
the event at any of the 10 Nevada locations.
The Nevada System of Higher Education, comprised of two doctoral-granting
universities, a state college, four comprehensive community colleges and one
environmental research institute, serves the educational and job training needs
of the nations fastest growing state. As Nevadas only system of
higher education, the NSHE provides educational opportunities to more than
100,000 students and is governed by the Nevada Board of Regents.
