REGENTS APPROVE SALARY INCREASE FOR
CCSN PRESIDENT
LAS VEGAS The Board of Regents today unanimously approved a $20,000
increase for Dr. Richard Carpenter, president of the Community College of
Southern Nevada.
We have had high expectations of President Carpenter and he has met
them, said Bret Whipple, chairman of the Board of Regents. He
arrived during a difficult time for the students, faculty and staff of CCSN and
has done a remarkable job over the past 12 months in getting our Systems
largest campus back on track.
Carpenter was originally hired by the Board of Regents in June 2004 with an
annual salary of $190,000. His new salary will be $213,800
(Note: Along with other NSHE employees, Dr. Carpenter received a $3,800 cost of
living adjustment in July 2005).
Before joining CCSN, Carpenter served as the president and state director for
the Wisconsin Technical College System. The system is comprised of 16 colleges,
440,000 students, 19,000 employees and an annual operating budget of
approximately $1 billion.
Previously, he held the position of president at Calhoun Community College from
1992 to 2001. He holds a Ph.D. in community college leadership from North
Carolina State University.
The Nevada Board of Regents is the elected, 13-member governing body for the
Nevada System of Higher Education. Comprising two doctoral-granting
universities, a state college, four comprehensive community colleges and one
environmental research institute, the NSHE serves the educational and job
training needs of the nations fastest growing state. As Nevadas
only system of higher education, the NSHE provides educational opportunities to
more than 100,000 students.
