Regents' Committee Picks Four Finalists for CCSN Presidency

LAS VEGAS – A committee of the Nevada Board of Regents today selected four finalists for consideration as the next president of the Community College of Southern Nevada.
The Regents' ad hoc CCSN Presidential Search Committee, which is chaired by Dr. Thomas E. Kirkpatrick of Las Vegas, announced the selection of the following four candidates:
  • Kamiran S. Badrkhan, superintendent/president, College of the Sequoias (Visalia, California)
  • Richard G. Carpenter, president and state director, Wisconsin Technical College System (Janesville, Wisconsin)
  • Holly L. Moore, president, Shoreline Community College (Shoreline, Washington)
  • Peter A. Spina, interim president, Thomas Nelson Community College (Hampton, Virginia)

“We were presented with an outstanding pool of candidates and we had some tough choices to make today,” said Kirkpatrick of the committee’s decision to narrow the candidates from 10 to four. “We felt that all four finalists could do well as the next president of one of the nation’s largest community colleges and we look forward to meeting them during their campus visits next week.”

The finalists will be interviewed Monday, May 10 and will conduct campus visits on May 11, as well as meet with Regents, faculty, students, and CCSN foundation members.

The committee plans to deliberate on May 12 to make their final recommendation to take before the full Board of Regents on June 3.

The 20-member joint committee, which consists of a five-member Regent’s committee and a 13-member institutional advisory committee, met today to discuss the references of the 10 candidates who were presented by Narcisa Polonio, vice president for Board Leadership Services with the Association of Community College Trustees.

In addition to Kirkpatrick, members of the Board committee include Regents Jill Derby, Thalia Dondero, Jack Lund Schofield and Bret Whipple.

For more than 30 years, the Community College of Southern Nevada has educated the work force that is the foundation of the region’s dynamic economic development. Featuring three main campuses and 21 academic centers in four counties, CCSN enrolls more than 35,000 students in 80 career programs.

The Nevada Board of Regents is the elected, 13-member governing body for the University and Community College System of Nevada. Comprising two doctoral-granting universities, a state college, four comprehensive community colleges and one environmental research institute, the UCCSN serves the educational and job training needs of the nation’s fastest growing state. As Nevada’s only system of higher education, the UCCSN provides educational opportunities to nearly 98,000 students.
