Name Anthony Chair and Derby Vice Chair
ELKO, Nev. – The Nevada
Board of Regents today unanimously re-elected Dr. Stavros Anthony to serve as
chair and elected Dr. Jill Derby to serve as vice chair of the 13-member
governing body.
Regents Anthony and Derby
will begin their one-year terms starting July 1. The Board's current vice chair
Marcia Bandera will complete her term June 30.
Anthony was elected to the
Board of Regents in 2002 and will be serving his second term as chair.
A native of Detroit, Anthony
is a 24-year veteran of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department where he
currently serves as captain of Metro’s Vice/Narcotics unit. He earned a B.S. in
criminal justice from Wayne State University and holds an M.A. in political
science from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, as well as a Ph.D. in
sociology. Anthony is also a graduate of the FBI National Academy.
Regent Derby was elected to
the Board of Regents in 1988 and previously served three terms as chair. She
currently chairs the Academic, Research and Student Affairs Committee, and is a
member of the Investment Committee and ad hoc Executive Evaluation and
Compensation Committee.
Derby holds a Ph.D. and an
M.A. in anthropology from the University of California, Davis. She earned her
B.A. in anthropology from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas and a B.S. in
dental hygiene from the University of California, San Francisco.
The Nevada Board of Regents
is the elected, 13-member governing body for the University and Community
College System of Nevada. Comprising two doctoral granting universities, a state
college, four comprehensive community colleges and one environmental research
institute, the UCCSN serves the educational and job training needs of the
nation's fastest growing state. As Nevada's only system of higher education, the
UCCSN provides educational opportunities to nearly 98,000 students.
