LAS VEGAS. – The Board of
Regents has approved the appointment of Dr. Patricia K. Miltenberger as the
interim president of Nevada State College.
Currently a professor
emerita in educational leadership at the University of Nevada, Reno, and the
president of Miltenedge, LLC Educational Consulting and Adventure Planning, Dr.
Miltenberger will begin her appointment July 1 and will earn a pro-rated annual
salary of $175,500.
“Not only has Dr.
Miltenberger been with the UCCSN for the past 30 years, but she has also been
involved with Nevada State College since its inception and played an integral
role in helping NSC gain accreditation,” said Dr. Jill Derby, vice chair of the
Board of Regents. “Her selection as interim president will provide the college
with steady leadership and we are fortunate to have someone with her outstanding
credentials.”
Dr. Miltenberger is
currently the UNR project liaison accreditation officer for the sponsorship of
NSC and has served on more than 30 accreditation teams for the Northwest and
Western Association of Schools and Colleges.
Dr. Miltenberger’s more than
30 years of experience in Nevada higher education has stretched throughout the
institutions of the UCCSN. In addition to her teaching duties at UNR, she has
also held various positions with the university, including vice president of
student services from 1988–1998, vice president for academic affairs from
1986–1988, and counselor and co-director of Project Upward Bound from 1970–1972.
Additionally, she worked at
Truckee Meadows Community College for nearly two decades, first as dean of
student and community services from 1977–1984 and later as vice president of
operations from 1984–1986. Finally, she served as dean of student services at
Western Nevada Community College from 1974–1977, as well as counselor and
associate dean from 1972–1974.
Dr. Miltenberger earned her
B.A. in experimental psychology from the University of Nevada, Reno, her M.S. in
counseling from the University of Oregon, Eugene, and her Ed.D. in educational
administration and higher education from UNR.
A joint Board of Regents and
community advisory committee began the search for a new president of NSC earlier
in the month and is soliciting bids from several of the nation’s top executive
search firms to assist with the recruitment and initial candidate selection
process. The committee's next meeting is scheduled for Monday, July 19 at 8:00
a.m.
The Nevada Board of Regents
is the elected, 13-member governing body for the University and Community
College System of Nevada. Comprising two doctoral granting universities, a state
college, four comprehensive community colleges and one environmental research
institute, the UCCSN serves the educational and job training needs of the
nation's fastest growing state. As Nevada's only system of higher education, the
UCCSN provides educational opportunities to nearly 98,000 students.
