Committee Begins Search for New State College President
LAS VEGAS – A joint Board of Regents and community advisory
committee moved forward today in their search for a new president for Nevada
State College.
Chaired by Regent Mark Alden, the committee voted to begin the
process of hiring a national search firm to assist with the recruitment and
initial candidate selection process. The committee further directed the Board
staff to send out request for proposals (RFP’s) to several of the nation’s top
executive search firms.
“At their last meeting, the Legislature’s Committee to Evaluate
Higher Education Programs (AB 203) reiterated the need for a third tier of
higher education in our state and stressed the importance of ensuring the
success of Nevada State College,” Regent Alden said. “With that in mind, the
committee is fully committed to selecting a dedicated and visionary leader as
the next president of our state college.”
The committee's next meeting is scheduled for Monday, July 19 at
8:00 a.m. At that time, the committee will interview and select a search firm,
discuss the candidate profile, decide in which publications to place
advertisements, establish a budget for the search, and set additional meeting
dates.
In addition to Regent Alden, members of the Regents' committee
include Dr. Jill Derby, Thalia Dondero, Linda Howard and Douglas
Seastrand.
Members of the advisory committee to the Regents include:
Milissa Avila, Dr. Erika Beck, Dr. Lois Becker, Dr. Rene Cantu, Dr. Connie
Carpenter, Kathy Gonzales, Dr. Rho Hudson, Fred Lowe, William Martin, Alice
Martz, Dr. Francine Mayfield, Lyle Smith, and Shawna Thompson.
The Nevada Board of Regents is the elected, 13-member governing
body for the University and Community College System of Nevada. Comprising two
doctoral granting universities, a state college, four comprehensive community
colleges and one environmental research institute, the UCCSN serves the
educational and job training needs of the nation's fastest growing state. As
Nevada's only system of higher education, the UCCSN provides educational
opportunities to nearly 98,000 students.
