REGENTS COMMITTEE SELECTS NSC PRESIDENT

LAS VEGAS -- A committee of the Nevada Board of Regents today unanimously selected Dr. Fred J. Maryanski as its top candidate to serve as the next president of Nevada State College.
The Nevada State College Presidential Search Committee, chaired by Regent Mark Alden, met this afternoon to select the top candidate to bring forward to the full Board of Regents during a special meeting which will be held the first week of January.

Two candidates, Maryanski and Dr. Andrew Bodman of Western Washington University, completed campus tours earlier this week. Maryanski is currently serving as the interim provost and executive vice president for academic affairs at the University of Connecticut and has been in central administration at the university for 15 years. The University of Connecticut has an enrollment of approximately 27,000 students at all campuses. Maryanski holds a Ph.D. in computer science from the University of Connecticut.

“The committee was extremely impressed with all of the candidates and their qualifications,” said Alden. “In the end, Dr. Maryanski possesses the determination and vision necessary to lead Nevada State College into what will certainly be its most important years of growth.”
In addition to Alden, members of the Board committee include Regents Jill Derby, Thalia Dondero, Linda Howard, and Jack Lund Schofield. An advisory committee comprised of NSC faculty, staff and students, as well as community members, also actively participated in the search process.
