Regents Select Chairsell as Interim Vice Chancellor
RENO The Board of Regents today unanimously approved the selection of
Dr. Christine Chairsell as interim vice chancellor for academic and student
affairs.
Dr. Chairsell brings a wealth of academic experience to this critical
position, said Dr. Stavros Anthony, board chair. "She knows the
issues facing our system and Im looking forward to the contributions she
will make to Nevada higher education."
As vice chancellor, Chairsell will be responsible for coordinating the major
academic, research and student issues among the UCCSN's two universities, four
community colleges, research institute and a state college.
Chairsell previously served as the UCCSN's associate vice chancellor for
academic and student affairs and the state director for community colleges. In
the spring of 2002, she was tapped by the Board of Regents to serve as the
acting president of Nevada State College--the first state college in Silver
State's history--and opened the doors to the college's inaugural class that
fall.
Prior to joining the Chancellors Office, Chairsell served as provost and
interim associate vice president of computing services for the Community
College of Southern Nevada (CCSN).
Dr. Chairsell joined CCSN in 1995 as dean of special programs before serving as
provost of the Charleston Campus. Previously, Dr. Chairsell was at UNLV for
eight years in the department of political science and the environment studies
program.
Dr. Chairsell holds a B.A. and M.A. in political science and an Ed.D in
educational leadership. Her research interests include Constitutional
consequences of interstate water compacts, and the impact of mandatory student
fees upon First Amendment rights.
The Nevada Board of Regents is the elected, 13-member governing body for the
University and Community College System of Nevada. Comprising two
doctoral-granting universities, a state college, four comprehensive community
colleges and one environmental research institute, the UCCSN serves the
educational and job training needs of the nations fastest growing state.
As Nevadas only system of higher education, the UCCSN provides
educational opportunities to nearly 98,000 students.
