Klaich Named Chief Counsel for UCCSN
RENO Interim Chancellor James E. Rogers announced today the hiring of
Daniel J. Klaich as the new chief counsel for Nevada higher education.
Dan Klaichs 30 years of experience as an attorney in Nevada and his
experience as a Regent for the UCCSN, will allow him to hit the ground running
as Chief Counsel, said Rogers. I believe he will be an invaluable
asset to our system.
Klaich, who served as a Regent from 1984 to 1997, will join the
chancellors staff in early November. He has been a member of the Nevada
Bar for nearly 30 years.
Most recently, he was the executive vice president and general counsel for
Clean Fuels Technology, Inc.
As chief counsel, Klaich will oversee legal activities throughout the UCCSN.
Specific duties will include providing legal advice and counsel concerning
legal rights and obligations, review and negotiation of contracts, review of
legal implications of pending legislation, drafting a broad variety of
documents such as proposed legislation, administrative policies and contracts.
Reporting to the chief legal counsel will be seven attorneys, the majority of
whom will be working on the UCCSN campuses.
Klaich earned his bachelor of science in accounting from the University of
Nevada, Reno, and his juris doctor from the University of Washington, Seattle.
He also holds a master of laws in taxation from New York University.
The Nevada Board of Regents is the elected, 13-member governing body for the
University and Community College System of Nevada. Comprising two
doctoral-granting universities, a state college, four comprehensive community
colleges and one environmental research institute, the UCCSN serves the
educational and job training needs of the nations fastest growing state.
As Nevadas only system of higher education, the UCCSN provides
educational opportunities to nearly 98,000 students.
