Students Can Now
Use Internet to Search More Than 500 Programs at Nevada Colleges
LAS VEGAS—The University
and Community College System of Nevada recently unveiled an online information
system that will allow students, school counselors and parents the opportunity
to find information about more than 500 degree programs offered at any of the
UCCSN’s four community colleges, two universities or state college.
Known as the Academic Program
Information System (APIS), this online resource allows viewers to learn more
about degree programs, what programs are offered at the various campuses and
what programs are offered at more than one campus. APIS can be viewed at http://www.nevada.edu/admin/apis_entry.html.
Coming to fruition after
three years of planning and development, APIS is the product of teamwork. “It
took a joint effort between the Chancellor’s Office and System Computing
Services, as well as validation by the various campuses to make sure that this
information was not only the most current available, but that it was readily
accessible and easy to follow,” said Dr. Richard Curry, UCCSN vice chancellor
for academic, research and student affairs.
In the online APIS database,
each of the topics listed above appears as a link. Each link connects to a specialized
search engine that contains specific information about Board approved degree
programs. Plans for the APIS database include adding quick links to the various
institutions’ Web sites for ease of enrollment.
Comprising two doctoral
granting universities, a state college, four comprehensive community colleges
and one environmental research institute, the UCCSN serves the educational and
job training needs of the nation's fastest growing state. As Nevada's only system
of higher education, the UCCSN provides educational opportunities to more than
93,000 students.
