Gianini
Named CCSN Interim President
LAS VEGAS—The Nevada
Board of Regents today selected Dr. Paul C. Gianini, Jr. to serve as the interim
president of the Community College of Southern Nevada.
Dr. Gianini will be asked
to assume the duties of interim president on January 5, 2004.
As a result of action taken
by the Regents on November 20 to transfer Dr. Ron Remington from his post as
CCSN president, the Board directed Chancellor Jane Nichols to move immediately
to bring forward a candidate for the interim presidency of the college.
Nichols consulted with the
Association of Community College Trustees who recommended Dr. Gianini for the
position. The contract for his services will be with the ACCT. Gianini will
be retained for at least four months and his salary will be pro-rated monthly
based on an annual salary of $160,000.
“Over the past few
weeks, I’ve had numerous conversations with faculty and students at the
Community College of Southern Nevada about their needs,” said Chancellor
Jane Nichols, who presented the recommendation to the Regents. “One message
that I received loud and clear was that CCSN wanted a strong president at the
helm in the months ahead as we prepare for the 2005 legislative session. I believe
that Dr. Gianini can fill that role.”
Gianini is currently a president
emeritus of Valencia Community College in Orlando, Florida, where he served
as president from 1984 – 2000. He also served as interim president of
Aims Community College in Colorado in 2002.
Gianini holds a bachelor
of arts in psychology and education from Yankton College, and a master of education
in educational psychology and measurements from the University of Nebraska.
He also holds an educational specialist degree (Ed.S.) and doctorate of education
degree in educational administration from the University of Florida, Gainesville.
