Regents'
Committee Names Romesburg as Top Candidate for Nevada State College Presidency
LAS VEGAS - A Nevada Board
of Regents' committee voted unanimously to select Dr. Kerry Dean Romesburg as
its choice for the next president of Nevada State College.
"After careful and
thoughtful consideration by all members of the committee, I am pleased to announce
Dr. Romesburg as our choice for the next president of Nevada State College,"
said Regent Mark Alden, chair of the Regents' ad hoc Nevada State College Presidential
Search Committee. "Dr. Romesburg has the exact combination of experience,
enthusiasm, and foresight needed to take the helm of the state college, and
we are pleased to bring his nomination before the entire Board of Regents for
approval at our August meeting."
Dr. Romesburg and his family
will meet with NSC faculty and staff and with community members on August 12.
The full Board of Regents will vote on whether to approve Dr. Romesburg as the
college's next president at its August 15 - 16 meeting.
Currently the president
of Utah Valley State College in Orem, Utah, Dr. Romesburg previously served
as executive director of the Alaska Commission on Postsecondary Education and
the Alaska Student Loan Corporation. He holds a Ph.D. in higher education administration
and both an M.A. and a B.A. in mathematics/education, all from Arizona State
University.
"A presidential search
is always a challenging and insightful process that introduces us to extremely
qualified and talented individuals," Chair Alden said.
The joint committee, consisting
of a five-member Regents' committee and a 21-member institutional advisory committee,
met yesterday and today to interview five candidates for this position. The
entire committee met on July 11 to review a list of 11 candidates presented
by Dr. Jean Dowdall, a search consultant for A.T. Kearney, Inc. At that time,
the committee selected the semi-finalists to bring before the committee for
interviews.
In addition to Alden, members
of the Board committee include Regents Jill Derby, Thalia Dondero, Dorothy Gallagher,
and Douglas Seastrand

with a faculty focused on teaching as opposed to research. The core curriculum
will be aimed at meeting current critical shortages of qualified teachers and
nurses in Nevada, as well as offering a strong liberal arts program.

System of Nevada. Comprising two doctoral granting universities, a state college,
four comprehensive community colleges and one internationally acclaimed research
institute, the UCCSN serves the educational and job training needs of the nation's
fastest growing state. As Nevada's only system of higher education, the UCCSN
