Distance Education Catalog Now Online
LAS VEGAS --
The UCCSN announced today the availability of an online catalog of distance
education courses available for the 2002 fall term from six Nevada universities
and community colleges.
The catalog, which can be found at www.scsr.nevada.edu/disted,
includes more than 250 distance education classes in 13 disciplines--from the
arts to computers to courses for teachers. Many of the offered courses can be
used to fulfill lower-division requirements at Nevada's community colleges or
universities.
The popular distance education courses-online, television broadcast or compressed
video classes-are the fastest growing type of class delivery option in higher
education.
"The UCCSN is committed to improving access to higher education and promoting
greater convenience for students," said Dr. Jane Nichols, chancellor of
the University and Community College System of Nevada. "This online catalog
makes it possible for students to take the classes they need by creating comprehensive
listings of what is available. Students can search for classes by campus or
by subject, and can also obtain online counseling and advising assistance from
each campus."
The Nevada Board of Regents is the elected, 11-member governing body for University
and Community College System of Nevada. Comprising two doctoral granting universities,
a state college, four comprehensive community colleges and one internationally
acclaimed research institute, the UCCSN serves the educational and job training
needs of the nation's fastest growing state. As Nevada's only system of higher
education, the UCCSN provides educational opportunities to more than 100,000
students.
