Curry Appointed Vice Chancellor
LAS VEGAS The Board of Regents today unanimously approved the appointment of Dr. Richard A. Curry as the vice chancellor for academic and student affairs.
Curry, who is currently the provost and vice president for academic affairs at California State University, Stanislaus, is expected to start July 17 in the UCCSN's Reno office.
"Dr. Curry brings a wealth of academic experience to this critical position," said Dr. Jane Nichols, chancellor. "He knows the issues facing higher education in our country and he knows the issues the UCCSN is facing in Nevada."
As vice chancellor, Curry would be responsible for coordinating the major academic, research and student issues among the UCCSN's two universities, four community colleges, research institute and fledgling state college.
Curry has been the provost and vice president for academic affairs at California State University, Stanislaus since 1995. He previously served as dean of the College of Letters, Arts and Social Sciences at Eastern Washington University from 1991 to 1995, and as the interim associate dean of the College of Arts and Science at the University of Nevada, Reno from 1986 through 1987.
He earned a B.A., M.A. and Ph.D. in Romance Languages and Literatures (Spanish) from the University of Washington.
Comprising two doctoral-granting universities, four comprehensive community colleges and one environmental research institution, the University and Community College System of Nevada serves the educational and job training needs of the nation's fastest growing state. As Nevada's only system of higher education, the UCCSN provides educational opportunities to nearly 100,000 students.
