Regents Tap Meyer for CCSN Interim Presidency
LAS VEGAS -- The Nevada Board of Regents today named Mike Meyer to serve as interim president for Community College of Southern Nevada.
Meyer's appointment will take effect immediately. Dr. Robert Silverman, who held the interim position since January 2000, is leaving CCSN to take a position as president of Mt. Hood Community College in Gresham, Oregon.
'Mr. Meyer has served the college well for the past two years and is a well respected member of the community,' said Thalia Dondero, Board of Regents Chair. 'I am pleased that he has agreed to step in and provide leadership for this institution until a national search can be completed.'
Meyer previously held the position of associate vice president for community development and athletics and was named CCSN's first athletics director in February 1999.
Prior to joining CCSN, Meyer served as the executive director of the Las Vegas Boys and Girls Club Foundation from 1995-1999, and was the executive director/president of the Boys and Girls Club of Las Vegas from 1972-1997.
Meyer earned an associate of arts degree from Contra Costa College and a bachelor of arts degree in recreational administration from San Francisco State University.
Comprising two doctoral-granting universities, four comprehensive community colleges and one environmental research institution, the University and Community College System of Nevada serves the educational and job training needs of the nation's fastest growing state. As Nevada's only system of higher education, the UCCSN provides educational opportunities to nearly 100,000 students.
