Diekhans Named GBC Interim President
RENO
-- The Board of Regents today named Carl Diekhans to serve as the interim president of Great Basin College.
"Carl Diekhans brings an outstanding record of commitment and compassion for the students, faculty and community of Great Basin College," said Thalia Dondero, chair of the Board of Regents.
Diekhans, who is currently the vice president for administrative services, will assume his new duties on July 1, the same day the Dr. Ron Remington, the college's current president, will start as president of Community College of Southern Nevada.
Diekhans, who will not be a candidate for the permanent presidency, has been with GBC for 21 years, serving the last seven years as vice president for administrative services.
Diekhans joined the college in 1980 as a mathematics instructor and later served as the coordinator for mathematics and computing. In 1986, he was selected as the director for mathematics, science and computing and was promoted three years later to associate dean of college services. In 1990, Diekhans was named dean of college services.
Diekhans holds a B.S. in mathematics from the College of Great Falls and an M.S. in mathematics from Montana State University.
