Regents Name Remington as CCSN President

LAS VEGAS -- The Nevada Board of Regents today selected Dr. Ron Remington to serve as the next president of the Community College of Southern Nevada.

Bringing closure to a year-and-a half search process, the Board interviewed two finalists for the position earlier in the day: Remington and Dr. Mary Spangler, president of Los Angeles Community College.

"We had two wonderful and extraordinarily talented candidates before us this morning," said Thalia Dondero, Board chair. "The decision to choose one over the other was difficult and CCSN would truly be a winner with either candidate. In the end, the majority of the Board felt that Dr. Remington would bring the necessary experience and a much needed sense of stability to this dynamic institution."

Remington's presidency will start July 1 at an annual salary of $160,000.

Remington is currently the president of Great Basin College in Elko, Nevada. He has held this post since 1989 and was previously vice president of instruction at Truckee Meadows Community College in Reno.

Past positions include dean of instruction and director, arts and sciences at TMCC; guest lecturer, California Polytechnic State University; associate dean, liberal arts at Western Nevada Community College; assistant professor, psychology, Minot State College; instructor, psychology, Mount San Antonio State College; and instructor, psychology, College of the Desert in Palm Desert, Calif.

Remington holds a Ph.D. in psychology from the University of Nevada, Reno. He earned both an M.A. and B.A. in psychology from Humboldt State University.

He also serves as a commissioner for the Commission on Colleges and Universities for the Northwest Association of Schools and Colleges and was recently the president of the Mountain States Association of Community Colleges.
In October 2000, Remington was inducted into the Hall of Fame at Humboldt State University for his accomplishments in track and field and football.

For nearly 30 years, the Community College of Southern Nevada has educated the work force that is the foundation of the region's dynamic economic development. Featuring three main campuses and 50 academic centers in four counties, CCSN enrolls more than 35,000 students in 70 career programs--nearly equal to the combined student body of Nevada's two universities.
