Regents Appoint Huneycutt as TMCC Interim President
LAS VEGAS Nevada's Board of Regents today unanimously approved the nomination of Dr. Rita Huneycutt to serve as the interim president of Truckee Meadows Community College.
Currently the college's senior vice president, Dr. Huneycutt has had lengthy experience as a TMCC senior administrator and faculty member. She served as interim president on an earlier occasion. She will assume her new position on January 1, 2001.
"Dr. Huneycutt has established an excellent reputation as an outstanding administrator," said Thalia Dondero, Board of Regents chair. "She is not only well respected by the college's faculty, staff and students, she has earned the respect of the community as well."
In September, President John Richardson announced he would end his three-year tenure at TMCC at the beginning of 2001. Previously, Dr. Richardson served as the college's interim president as well as interim chancellor of the UCCSN. He joined the UCCSN in 1992 as the vice chancellor for academic, research and student affairs.
Dr. Huneycutt started her career at TMCC in 1975 as a part-time instructor. Over the years, she has held a variety of leadership positions including chair, assistant to the president, dean of administrative services, vice president of institutional services and interim president.
Dr. Huneycutt earned a B.S. and a M.Ed. from the University of Nevada, Reno and a doctorate of education from the University of San Francisco.
Comprising two doctoral-granting universities, four comprehensive community colleges and one environmental research institution, the University and Community College System of Nevada serves the educational and job training needs of the nation's fastest growing state. As Nevada's only system of higher education, the UCCSN provides educational opportunities to more than 90,000 students.
