Distance Education Debuts Online Student FAQs
LAS VEGAS -- Distance education students taking courses from any of Nevada's four community colleges or two universities can now log on to a web site to find answers to their most Frequently Asked Questions about distance education.
Located in the Academics/Distance Learning section of the University and Community College System of Nevada web site www.nevada.edu/index2.html, the Student FAQs steers distance education students to the services available to them at each UCCSN campus.
For example, a student with questions about distance education can take an online survey to find out if they will be successful in this learning environment. Students and prospective students can also learn more about the different technologies used in distance education and what is involved in taking an Internet course.
Individuals interested in viewing current distance education courses can do so at www.nevada.edu/disted.html, and then register on-line.
Since fall semester 1997, enrollments in distance education have increased by 73 percent and now total 4,579 enrollments as of fall semester 1999. Student interest in distance education is expected to continue to grow as Nevada offers more online courses as well as courses in rural areas of the state.
Comprised of two doctoral-granting universities, four comprehensive community colleges and one environmental research institution, the University and Community College System of Nevada serves the educational and job training needs of the nation"s fastest growing state. As Nevada"s only system of higher education, the UCCSN provides educational opportunities to more than 90,000 students.
