Regents Add Seventh Candidate to
CCSN Presidential Search
LAS VEGAS -- The Board of Regents committee charged with finding a new president for the Community College of Southern Nevada voted today to add the college's interim president to its list of finalists.
Dr. Robert Silverman, the college's current interim president, was added as the seventh candidate for consideration. Chaired by Doug Seastrand, the ad hoc CCSN Presidential Search Committee repealed its August 5th decision to limit the number of presidential candidate finalists to six.
"Although the committee was not directed by the full Board to take this action, we felt a discussion was in order to consider expanding our candidate list," said Seastrand.
All seven candidates will be interviewed and tour the college's campuses on September 28-29. The committee will then narrow the list to no more than three candidates who will return the week of October 2-5 for full campus tours and expanded community forums.
On October 6, the committee will reconvene to discuss its final recommendation to bring forth to the full Board for consideration at its October 19-20 meeting at Western Nevada Community College in Carson City.
In addition to Seastrand, members of the committee include Regents Jill Derby (ex-officio), David Phillips, Howard Rosenberg, Steve Sisolak and Tom Wiesner.
For nearly 30 years, the Community College of Southern Nevada has educated the work force that is the foundation of the region's dynamic economic development. Featuring three main campuses and 50 academic centers in four counties, CCSN enrolls more than 35,000 students in 70 career programs--nearly equal to the combined student body of Nevada's two universities.
Comprising two doctoral-granting universities, four comprehensive community colleges and one environmental research institution, the University and Community College System of Nevada serves the educational and job training needs of the nation's fastest growing state. As Nevada's only system of higher education, the UCCSN provides educational opportunities to more than 90,000 students.
