Anderes to Step Down as Interim Chancellor
LAS VEGAS -- Interim Chancellor Tom Anderes announced this
morning that he will resign his position on June 30 with the
University and Community College System.
Anderes has accepted a position to serve as the
Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration for the Oregon
University System (OUS). Headquartered in Eugene, the Oregon
system oversees seven four-year universities with a total enrollment
of more than 60,000 students.
"Since stepping in as our Interim Chancellor last July,
Dr. Anderes has done a remarkable job serving our System through
this time of transition," said Jill Derby, Board of Regents chair.
In his new position with OUS, Anderes will be responsible for
systemwide financial, personnel, and administrative management
including supervision of staff engaged in collective bargaining,
fiscal control, internal audit, legal services, operating and
capital budget processes, information services, and institutional
research.
Before joining the UCCSN in September of 1994 as the Vice Chancellor
for Finance and Administration, Dr. Anderes served as deputy commissioner
of the Connecticut Department of Higher Education. He has also served
as deputy vice president for finance at the University of Wyoming and
held positions in finance and administration at Arizona State University,
the University of Connecticut and in the Governor's Budget Office,
State of Arizona.
He holds a bachelor's degree in political science and a master's degree
in public administration from the University of Arizona. His doctorate
is in higher education administration from the University of Connecticut.
Regent Derby added that she anticipates the Board will appoint an Interim
Chancellor at the May 9 Board of Regents meeting in Las Vegas.
A search committee to find a permanent replacement for the position
of Chancellor has been underway since February. The committee's next
meeting will be held at the UCCSN office in Las Vegas on May 2.
Comprised of two doctoral-granting universities, four comprehensive community
colleges and one environmental research institution, the University and Community College
System of Nevada serves the educational and job training needs of the nation's fastest
growing state. As Nevada's only system of higher education, the UCCSN provides educational
opportunities to more than 90,000 students.
