Regents Name Award Recipients


LAS VEGAS -- The Board of Regents today named Regents' Scholars from Nevada's six universities and community colleges as well as announced the recipients for several other Regents' awards.
The Regents' Scholar is awarded to students of the University & Community College System of Nevada for their academic achievements, leadership abilities and service contributions. Both undergraduate and graduate students are recognized from each university and community college. Regents' Scholars receive a $5,000 stipend as part of this award.
The 1999 Regents' Scholars are:
  • Kanda Aranda, Community College of Southern Nevada
  • Kilpatrick Carroll, University of Nevada, Las Vegas (Undergraduate)
  • Amber Joiner, University of Nevada, Reno (Undergraduate)
  • Otto MacLin, University of Nevada, Reno (Graduate)
  • Mindy Millard, Western Nevada Community College
  • Tara Pike, University of Nevada, Las Vegas (Graduate)
  • Billie R. Shelton, Great Basin College
  • Shannon A. White, Truckee Meadows Community College
Other award recipients announced were:
  • Regents' Creative Activity Award: Dr. Julie Jensen, UNLV
  • Regents' Researcher Award: Dr. Dale Johnson, DRI
  • Regents' Teaching Award Community College: Dr. Paul Davis, TMCC
  • Regents' Teaching Award University & DRI: Dr. John Bowers, UNLV
  • Regents' Academic Advisor Award:

      • Lea Sexton, Undergraduate
      • Dr. Richard Jensen, Graduate
    • University of Nevada, Reno
      • Rena Armstrong, Undergraduate

All award recipients will be recognized at special Regents' Receptions in Las Vegas and Reno in May.
