Distance Education Catalog Now On-Line

Reno, NV -- More than 200 distance learning courses from seven campuses can now be found on the Internet at http://www.nevada.edu/academ/catalog.htm.

The 1999 Spring Distance Learning catalog features a variety of courses that are available to students in a non-traditional classroom setting. Options for taking courses include watching the class pre-recorded on videotape or interacting live with an instructor and class at another location through satellite or microwave transmission. Web-based courses are also available.

"Distance learning is a fantastic opportunity for Nevada students of all ages to take the college-level courses they need, when they need them," said Richard Jarvis, chancellor of the University and Community College System.

"The Board of Regents and the UCCSN have always placed a strong emphasis on improving students' access to higher education. Taking courses through these innovative delivery systems is a highly effective way of meeting student needs, " he added.

The spring catalog is only the second time a comprehensive, system-wide listing of courses has been published. All Nevada public institutions are participating, including: Community College of Southern Nevada; Desert Research Institute; Great Basin College; Truckee Meadows Community College; University of Nevada, Las Vegas; University of Nevada, Reno and Western Nevada Community College.

For more information about the UCCSN's Distance Learning program, please contact Dr. Katrina Meyer at (775) 784-4901, ext. 234.

Comprised of two doctoral-granting universities, four comprehensive community colleges and one environmental research institution, the University and Community College System of Nevada serves the educational and job training needs of the nation's fastest growing state. As Nevada's only system of higher education, the UCCSN provides educational opportunities to more than 82,000 students.
