Senior Network Analyst
 

The Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE) invites applications and nominations for the position of Senior Network Analyst. This is a renewable, full-time, non-tenured, administrative position and reports to a Network Engineer/Supervisor/Manager. The position will be located at System Computing Services in Las Vegas, Nevada. The NSHE is comprised of eight relatively diverse institutions: two universities, a state college, four community colleges, and a research institute. The public system of higher education in Nevada continues to experience rapid growth, with significant challenges and opportunities in serving 100,000 students and 12,000 employees.

This position is responsible for the project design, management, and deployment of complex networking projects, provides tier-three troubleshooting and network support, and is responsible for the deployment and management of network devices, security devices, network monitoring systems, two way video conferencing systems and related equipment.

SALARY: Minimum starting yearly salary is $70,000
APPROXIMATE STARTING DATE: October 1, 2008

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: The successful candidate must have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution (technical discipline preferred) plus a minimum of four years progressive experience directly applicable to the position. Alternatively, the candidate must have at least two years of formal education or training in a related field plus at least eight years of directly applicable experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES : Successful candidates must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities. Applicants should address following items in their letter of application:

·   Design and architecture experience in IP data networks; experience in the implementation and management of complex networks using IP routing protocols such as BGP, OSPF, EIGRP

·   Extensive experience in IP data network troubleshooting, testing, monitoring and management

·   Demonstrated ability to successfully manage, coordinate, and deploy complex technical networking projects.

·   Experience in the deployment and management of network security technologies such as firewalls and IDS/IPS systems.

·   Experience in creating and maintaining project-related documentation, network diagrams, testing plans, and deployment plans.


·   Excellent analytical and problem solving skills, creativity, verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal skills, and the demonstrated ability to be a productive team member.

·   The ability and desire to research new technologies, tools, and methodologies.

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES : Successful candidates will have experience in a significant number of the following areas. The applicant should address the applicable areas of expertise in their letter of application:

·   Experience in the design and management of IP voice and/or video networks

·   In-depth experience and knowledge of Cisco IOS with CCNP and/or CCDP certifications

·   Experience with Cisco hardware including Catalyst Switches, WAN routers, PIX firewalls, VPN/IDS/IPS devices

·   Experience with troubleshooting tools such as protocol analyzers

·   Experience with Telco DS-0 & Higher Speed Lease Line ordering, configurations, troubleshooting and acceptance testing.

·   Experience with Optical Transport devices and technologies such as SONET, DWDM, Add/Drop Multiplexors, Cisco ONS15454

·   Experience with SAN Switching technologies such as FC, FCIP, Cisco MDS 9000

·   Experience with authentication technologies such as TACACS+, RADIUS, 802.1x, xEAP

·   Experience with SNMP-based monitoring systems; experience with Netflow; experience with syslog and log analysis

·   Experience with multicast routing technologies such as PIM, MBGP, MSDP

·   Experience in devising, documenting, and following formal procedures; experience using ticket tracking systems; experience with project management or change management systems, tools, or methodologies; experience with ITIL processes.

·   Experience with configuration management tools such as Cat Tools or Ciscoworks

·   Experience with any of the following tools: ACS, WhatsUp, Solarwinds, Netflow Monitor, Netflow Tracker, Statseeker, Kiwi Syslog

·   Experience with bandwidth capacity/availability planning and reporting

·   Experience with system performance monitoring and reporting

·   Experience using Microsoft (Visio, Word, XL & Power Point)

·   An advanced technical degree

RESPONSIBILITIES:  

·   Analysis and design support for complex network enhancements and expansions.

·   Tier-3 network troubleshooting, testing, performance monitoring and tuning; providing advice, assistance and training for NSHE units and external agencies.

·   Project management and coordination for new installations and enhancements, including coordinating activities with technicians, common carriers, customers, and external agencies.

·   Deployment and management of network and security monitoring and management systems.

·   Research and analysis of emerging network and security technologies.

·   Management of budget areas as assigned.

·   Limited auto and airline travel with overnight stays is required in support of activities related to this position.
