Business Manager, University of Nevada Press
 

The Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE) invites applications and nominations for the position of Business Manager for the University of Nevada Press. This is a renewable, full-time, non-tenured, administrative position and reports to the Press Director. The position will be located on the University of Nevada, Reno campus. The NSHE is comprised of eight institutions : Two universities, a state college, four community colleges, and a research institute. The public system of higher education in Nevada continues to experience rapid growth, with significant challenges and opportunities in serving 100,000 students and 12,000 employees.

The University of Nevada Press is the book-publishing arm of the NSHE. Founded in 1961, the Press publishes 20-25 books per year and has an active backlist of 320 titles. The publishing program includes scholarly and general interest books about the American West, with specializations in Basque studies, gaming, Western history, natural history, regional culture, Western literature and environmental studies.

SALARY: Minimum starting salary $50,000

APPROXIMATE STARTING DATE: July 1, 2009

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: The successful candidate must have an earned a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution. A minimum of three years progressive experience directly applicable to the position is required. Preference will be given to candidates who have experience in scholarly publishing in a higher education environment.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL, AND ABILITIES : Successful candidates must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities. It is recommended that applicants for this position address each of the following items in their letter of application:

·   Demonstrated knowledge of accounting, budgeting and financial analysis; office management; and personnel management, preferably in a university setting

·   Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills

·   Supervisory and organizational skills

·   Knowledge of book publishing practices and procedures preferred

·   Knowledge of Cat’s Pajamas, Peachtree and/or other publishing information systems and accounting software preferred

RESPONSIBILITIES: The duties of this position will include, but not be limited to, the following areas of responsibility within the University of Nevada Press:

·   Oversee all business operations, including financial management, fulfillment and inventory management

·   Process accounts payable and receivable; reconcile cash accounts; and prepare financial reports and annual budgets

·   Maintain royalty and book inventory databases

·   Manage business office staff, including office and customer service manager and warehouse manager
